ID Alerts is one of ExpressVPN’s Identity Defender services that aims to further improve users’ privacy. It monitors and notifies you of suspicious activity that suggests you might be at an increased risk of identity theft. 

Activity regarding your Social Security number or your home address are detected and reported to you in real-time. Meanwhile, ID Alerts regularly scans for your information on the dark web. If your data appears on these sites, we’ll alert you right away so you can protect yourself. Learn more about ID Alerts.

How to get ID Alerts

Currently, new ExpressVPN users in the U.S. have access to ID Alerts.

Existing ExpressVPN users in the U.S. (who signed up before Oct. 28, 2024) do not yet have access to ID Alerts, but we will be rolling it out to them soon. Availability for other regions will be confirmed later.

  1. Go to the Order page and choose an ExpressVPN plan. 
  2. Press the button on the plan to proceed.
  3. You may add more services by ticking the boxes under Optional add-on services.
  4. Complete your order by entering your email address and payment details. You now have access to ID Alerts, as part of your ExpressVPN subscription.

How to set up and use ID Alerts

You may set up ID Alerts in the ExpressVPN mobile apps for iOS or Android or on your ExpressVPN Account page.

  1. If you are using the mobile app, tap the Upgrades tab on the bottom of the app screen. If you are using the ExpressVPN website, go to your Account page, where you’ll be prompted to log into your account, if you aren’t already signed in.
  2. Select ID Alerts.
  3. You’ll be prompted to enter your personal information.
  4. Select Continue. “Scanning” will appear on the screen.
  5. After scanning is complete, you’ll see a list of alerts.

Update your information

You can adjust the information that ID Alerts monitors. 

On your mobile app:

  1. Tap the Upgrades tab on the bottom of the app screen. 
  2. Tap ID Alerts.
  3. Select Update Information under Manage monitored information.
  4. Add or remove information.

On your Account page of the ExpressVPN website:

  1. Select ID Alerts on the left-side menu.
  2. Click Update under Monitored information.
  3. Add or remove information that you want.
